The Continuous Improvement Fund (CIF) was a partnership between the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO), the City of Toronto, Stewardship Ontario (SO) and the Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority (formerly Waste Diversion Ontario – WDO).
The CIF commenced operations on May 1, 2008 under a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed by the program partners, operating as a committee of WDO.
On August 15, 2019, the Honourable Jeff Yurek, Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks directed RPRA and SO to, amongst other things, develop a plan to windup the existing Blue Box Program Plan (BBPP) and the CIF as soon as practical and by no later than December 31, 2025.
In light of the Minister’s direction, the CIF presented a Windup Plan to RPRA recommending that the CIF cease operations at the end of 2024. The Windup Plan was approved on December 22, 2020 and the CIF wound up operations on December 31, 2024.
