Issue 9: March 2011
The CIF is entering its third year of operations and municipalities across the province have accessed the fund and our services to help improve their blue box operations. The strategic partners (AMO, Toronto, WDO and Stewardship Ontario) established the CIF to assist municipalities in directing and leveraging monies to improve the blue box program in Ontario. With more than $27 million invested in over $70 million in projects it clearly is a success. We expect 2011 to be a milestone year for improvements in Blue Box program effectiveness and efficiency and the Continuous Improvement Fund is here to help.
2011 is off to an energetic start with the January 10th release of a Request for Expressions of Interest (REOI) earmarking $10 million of the total CIF budget of $18 million to help fund this year’s special priority projects that already have proven to be effective in reducing recycling program collection and processing costs and raising recycling capture rates in Ontario communities.
If you haven’t yet found time to review the REOI and to think about the projects that you might undertake, we encourage you to have a look as soon as you can. Applications for funding under the REOI priority projects must be received in our office no later than Friday, March 11 at 4 p.m.
CIF Staff Can Help
Improving the cost-effectiveness and performance of municipal recycling programs throughout Ontario is our overarching goal. Our work has focused on outreach to ensure that municipalities interested in taking advantage of funding have the information and tools you needed to make successful applications. Remember we’re here to help. If your project ideas don’t fit into the projects that are part of the REOI but will improve your blue box program there is funding available. Give us a call to see how we can help with your application. As always, we welcome your input to help us make the Continuous Improvement Fund work for you.
